Lunarium Demo Impressions
Sisterhood of the Sword
Lunarium is a stunning action RPG drawing heavy inspiration from popular souls-like action games. While I am not particularly good at dodge-roll-perfect-parry-type games I found the difficulty of the demo to be a nice level of challenge. Lune, the companion adds interesting layers to the combat by augmenting combos and helping with stunning enemies.
It is hard to understate how beautiful the world is. The characters, enemies, and environments all have a gorgeous painted style that seamlessly blends 2D and 3D elements.
Impressions
The following are my impressions after playing the demo. Presented as a rough bulleted list:
Positives
- incredibly beautiful art style
- solid combat with interesting combos
- story is intriguing despite machine translated text
- environments were easily navigable
- really good level of difficulty (for me)
Critiques
- reliance on parry systems can make combat a waiting game rather than encouraging proactive action
- combat animations could feel a little stiff
- unsure how crafting items play into overall gameplay. Is a crafting system really needed?
- pop-up dialogue during gameplay was sometimes too quick to read in English
